Itinerary

The adventure begins the moment you set foot on our vessel! Our tours are set up safari style which means from the start of the tour we are going to be scanning the gorgeous and dramatic coastline of Kona for any type of wildlife to observe and interact with. With the rapid and deep drop off of the sea floor along the coast, we have the potential to swim with shallow water animals as well as pelagic (deep, open ocean) marine life. While nature is unpredictable and we cannot guarantee any specific interactions or observations, we have the potential to see sea turtles, various fish species, dolphin and whale species, sharks, and manta rays. Weâ€™ll have four hours on the water to provide you with the best experience imaginable. Please note we do go into deep water for open ocean wildlife on nearly every tour. The search for pelagic life can take some time. Please note you should be able to swim, have a degree of athleticism, & climb up a ladder to participate in the water.

The most amazing experience! Kayleigh and Cam are so knowledgeable about the ocean and ocean life. We could have listened to them talk about ocean life for the whole tour. We were blessed to have three manta ray visit us! The Hawaiian gods gave us a pod of dolphins. Kayleigh said “let’s go!” Before you knew it we were ahead of the pod, jumping into the blue bliss, and swimming right alongside a pod of wild dolphins! Can’t say enough about this trip! Please note… this truly is a wild safari no guarantees on viewing mantas or dolphins. I can guarantee you will leave with lots of knowledge about the ocean.

Amazing experience we dove with, Manta Ray's and a shark. We also saw dolphins and hump back whales highly recommend.

Highly recommend Kaimana Ocean Safari. They are a great crew that will give you a once in a lifetime experience. They are very knowledgeable, and truly care about the ocean and it's marine life. I flew to Kona just for the day to do this. I plan to come back in the summer to do it again.

We got to safely view oceanic white tips and silky sharks, along with getting to snorkel along a reef and see lots of beautiful fish and even an eel. There were humpback whale sightings along the way

I don't even have words! Kay and Cam have so much passion and care for the ocean and wildlife and it shows in their entire operation. It was truly such a unique experience. We saw beautiful humpback whales that breached right by the boat, and then got in the water to snorkel to explore the reef and snorkel with dolphins. Throughout the entire experience you could tell how much Kay and Cam really enjoy what they do. We will definitely be back!!

This was the best excursion I have ever experienced! Kay and Cam were so knowledgeable about the ocean, the land and all the fish and animals we encountered. We snorkeled at Kealakekua Bay and then were lucky enough to swim with 3 sharks in deeper water. Kay and Cam were very diligent about safety the entire trip and teaching us about shark behavior before getting into the water. We also got GoPro footage of the trip the day after which I thought was amazing! Whenever we return the the big island we will absolutely book another trip with Kaimana Ocean safari!

The surf was rough the day we went on the tour so there was a chance that the tour would be canceled. But because of the skillful maneuvering of the boat, we were able to get out of the harbor for an amazing day. On the way out, we were able to see whales. Though the snorkeling locations were limited, we were able to go to Kealakekua Bay. On the way back, we encountered melon headed whales, a kind of dolphin, which we were told are rare in HI. They came incredibly close to the boat. We were able to jump into the water to see them in the distance. I would highly recommend the Ocean Safari experience with Kaimana. Since the tour was limited to 6, we were able to have a personalized tour. The icing on the cake was that they posted underwater videos for downloading, an unexpected momento of the trip.

I can’t say enough good things about Kaimana! Fortunately, I found the ocean safari after researching numerous dolphins tours. I couldn’t help but get the feeling so many tours chase the ocean life but my kids wanted to see dolphins. When I happened across Kamaina, it was easy to see they were different. This company offers an intimate, respectful and educational encounter with sea life and they are also just great people! My husband was worried about sharks but he ended up swimming with them anyhow once we realized the amazing care we were in with Kamaina. We saw/ swam with dolphins, mantas, pilot whales, and white tipped reef sharks. It was a once In a lifetime experience that couldn’t be duplicated with any other tour company. I am really glad we made the extra trip to Big Island just for this experience. It was well worth it and not only our favorite experience in Hawaii but of my lifetime. Thanks Kamaina for showing us the spectacular secrets of our ocean in such a eco-friendly way.

We loved swimming the mantas and the humpback whale calf that we sighted on the day we went. The snorkeling provided interesting new fish for us. Great experience without the crowds.
