My girlfriend and I decided to visit Richmond for our 5 year anniversary, knowing "Virginia is for lovers" but not much else about the city we decided to look online for a comprehensive city tour. Reading reviews we saw really great things about the tour guys, and they did not disappoint! We found out that we were able to get the last tour of the holiday season, and Ray was so accommodating! Ray was very friendly and engaging, and provided so many entertaining, colorful, and funny descriptions and stories that ranged across the centuries of the city's rich cultural history. Ray was extremely knowledgeable and in addition to all of that, he was also very helpful in terms of providing many fantastic recommendations for parking, dining, drinks and entertainment! We left the tour having learned so much about Richmond's history and culture both past and present, and had such a fun time doing so! We recommend this as an essential, wouldn't miss tour of Richmond, and my girlfriend and I can't wait to visit the city again! Thanks so much Ray and Richmond Tour Guys, hope to see you again very soon! 😄 -Ryan

My partner and I were in Richmond a few weeks weeks ago, and signed up for the Church Hill tour the day of as a last-minute diversion. We were somewhat surprised when we arrived at the meeting spot and were the only ones there. The other groups who had previously signed up had canceled, so we got a lovely private tour with Ray. He was enjoyable to talk to, and knowledgeable about the history of all of the homes and buildings in this area. Our favorite parts were the scenic overlooks over the whole city and the river, and learning more about the famous Patrick Henry speech. (That speech was something that I learned about in history class a long time ago, but didn't really appreciate the significance of in the context of the Revolution until this tour - and that's coming from a Bostonian :-) ). If we're ever back in Richmond, we'll check out one of their other tours for sure!

This was a good tour, although it did not cover as much ground as I anticipated. The tour was really focused on architecture, which was interesting. I enjoyed the church and cemetery area. Note that you see the capital building from a hilltop, not actually there.

Our guide, Jeff, is a retired history professor. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about Richmond history. We are new to the area, and didn't know a lot (outside of what we learned in American History class) about the role that Richmond played in both the founding of this country and in the Civil War. Jeff explained Richmond's role, as well as how the city became to be as we know it today. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is not familiar with the city's history.

We had a pretty private tour (as a couple) and our guide was able to go into greater detail, responding to our questions. Ray was phenomenal and very knowledgeable.

Great discussion about Civil War. Tour guide answered my questions. Tre told me about the "Lost Cause," narrative. As a Civil War buff this was extremely interesting to me. And even encouraged me to learn more about the subject.
